The creative force behind the e-commerce site Vintage Peacock, has long been captivated by the harmonious blend of design and functionality. Her journey as an artist and entrepreneur began in her early years as a young mother, where she taught herself the art of sewing by crafting baby clothes for her first daughter, Robbi. “I learned how to sew when Robbi was a baby because [infant clothes] were little things,” recalls Teddi, reflecting on her humble beginnings.
As Teddi’s family expanded with the birth of six more children, her sewing skills evolved in tandem. By the time Robbi entered high school, Teddi was confidently tackling intricate formal dress patterns for her daughter’s school dances, showcasing her growing expertise and creativity.
In addition to her passion for sewing, Teddi embraced embroidery, a craft she turned to during her pregnancy with her third daughter. This new hobby not only enhanced her skills but also played a pivotal role in her journey to quit smoking. “That really helped me to quit smoking,” she shares, highlighting the therapeutic nature of her artistic endeavors.
For Teddi, creativity is more than a passion; it is a vital outlet that keeps her grounded and energized. Throughout the years of raising her children, tending to gardens, and now navigating the entrepreneurial landscape, she has discovered that engaging in creative work, be it sewing, decoupage, gardening, or cooking, is essential for her well-being. “When I start feeling down, it is because I have energy I haven’t done anything with,” she explains.
Teddi’s commitment to self-sufficiency and the creative process not only helps her maintain clarity of mind but also serves as a powerful tool against the blues. “It is extremely satisfying,” she concludes, embodying the spirit of resilience and artistry that defines her work at Vintage Peacock. Through her unique creations, Teddi invites others to experience the beauty and functionality of handcrafted design, making each piece a testament to her journey and passion.
Don Burns, a Treasure Valley native and husband to Teddi happily fills the role of supportive partner in his wife’s endeavors with Vintage Peacock. “We have so much in common that we don’t get tired of being around each other.”
Don’s background as an inventor and entrepreneur gives him a special insight into Teddi’s insatiable creativity and her drive to run a successful business. However, Don is a creative himself and enjoys remaking vintage pocket knives with decorative handles made from the rocks he and Teddi find on their travels around the western United States.
Don is extroverted and enjoys engaging with others, while Teddi is somewhat shy in social settings with a more introverted nature. Teddi remarks that Don can “talk to anybody about anything. I don’t really talk to strangers, but I talk to Don. While seemingly opposite, their dynamic is a perfect balance, this complimentary partnership allows them to support each other’s strengths and passions.
Ben Burns, the son of Teddi and Don, brings a vibrant and expressive dimension to Vintage Peacock through his paintings. Living with autism has given Ben a unique way of seeing the world, one that comes alive in his bold use of color, texture, and emotion on canvas.
From a young age, Ben found art to be both a passion and an outlet, allowing him to communicate and connect in ways words sometimes cannot. His paintings reflect his keen eye for detail and his ability to transform everyday moments and inspirations into striking works of art.
For Ben, painting is more than a creative pursuit, it is a way of sharing his perspective and talent with others. Each piece he creates carries the spirit of individuality, resilience, and beauty that defines the Burns family’s work at Vintage Peacock.
